In a surprise move, Deputy Mayor for Operations Stephen Goldsmith, who masterminded the city's incredibly inept response to the Christmas Blizzard of 2010, has left city government.
The blizzard kept parts of Bay Ridge locked down for days.
Upon his arrival just 15 months ago, Bloomberg touted Harvard professor and former Indianapolis mayor Goldsmith as a "government reinventor" (translation: privatizer).
His critics blasted Goldsmith as an arrogant, clueless bureaucrat who was completely out of his element in New York City government.
Goldsmith, who follows fellow government outsider Cathie Black out the front door of City Hall, is the latest in a series of false moves that have blighted the mayor since the beginning of his third term.
Trusted Bloomberg insider Cas Holloway, currently heading the Department of Environmental Protection, will replace Goldsmith.
