Trash Bin Removal Plan Expanded to Bensonhurst

Effective June 20, the city Department of Sanitation, is expanding on its month-long pilot program in Bay Ridge by removing the corner trash bins on 18th Avenue between Bay Ridge Parkway and 65th Street in Bensonhurst for a month.

As does Josephine Beckmann, district manager of local CB 10, Marnee Elias-Pavia, district manager of Bensonhurst's CB 11, believes that the problem she is addressing by having the corner trash bins removed is the illegal dumping of household and commercial trash.

Her plan, which she has already called a success, is a "three-pronged approach" involving education, outreach and enforcement.

Bensonhurst residents know that removing the corner trash bins won't make things cleaner, but who are they?
