Golden Bill Would Invalidate Out-of-State Gay Marriages

You knew that Republican State Senator Marty Golden opposed the effort to legalize gay marriage in New York State:  he has refused to even discuss the subject with his gay constituents.

You may not know that he wants to go further and stop New York from recognizing the marriages of gay people who were legally married in other states.

On the downlow, Golden has introduced a  so-called "defense of marriage" bill today that would void any same-sex marriage performed out of state, denying the constitutional guarantee of "full faith and credit".

The Golden bill would reverse former Gov. David Paterson's 2008 executive order requiring state agencies to recognize gay marriages performed by other states.

Golden characterized his bill as a blow for "normalcy".

I think that the 51% of Americans who support gay marriage are as qualified to decide what's "normal" as Marty Golden is.

Golden's extreme stance on gay marriage is attributed to his dependence upon the political support of Mike Long, who heads the state's Conservative Party, to stay on office.
