"Funk, God, Jazz and Medicine: Black Radical Brooklyn" at Weeksville

Creative Time and Weeksville Heritage Center will present "Funk, God, Jazz, and Medicine: Black Radical Brooklyn", a walkable month-long art exhibit featuring four community-based art commissions: Xenobia Bailey, Simone Leigh, Otabenga Jones and Associates, and Bradford Young.

Black Radical Brooklyn will launch from Weeksville, a historic Brooklyn community established by free and formerly-enslaved Black Americans 11 years after slavery was abolished in New York State.

Black Radical Brooklyn draws inspiration not only from the story of Weeksville – where self-determination was achieved through claiming and holding a neighborhood – but also from the radical battles for land and dignity that have been fought in Brooklyn since the 1960s.

There will be an opening party at Weeksville on Saturday, September 20 from 2 - 6 PM.

The exhibit will be viewable on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 6 PM until October 12.
