Wednesday Mornings on the Hill 2014

Join Friends of Sunset Park in welcoming the NYC Parks Foundation's "Summerstage Kids" to Sunset Park this summer for Asian folk dance, puppets and funky fables.

All performances begin at 10:30 AM. (Arrival by 10 AM is recommended if you want to get a good spot.) Remember to bring your own seating -- a blanket or cushion -- water to drink, and sunscreen.
  • Asian Folk Dance. By the flagpole at the basketball courts on Wednesday, July 30, the New York Chinese Cultural Center Dancers will present a spectacular program of traditional Asian folk dance performed by NYCCC students, including traditional Mongolian, Uyger, Tibetan, and Thai folk dances.
  • Little Red Riding Hood. At the playground at the 44th Street/6th Avenue entrance on Wednesday, August 6, the popular Puppetmobile will present an update of Little Red Riding Hood featuring a sassy urban heroine with a smartphone. Written by Liam Hurley and directed by Bruce Cannon, Artistic Director at the Swedish Marionette Theatre.
  • Aesop Bops: Funky Fables. By the flagpole at the basketball courts on Wednesday, August 13, performance artist David Gonzalez will present Aesop Bops: Funky Fables, a funny, fast-paced audience-participation-laced feast of physical storytelling by the creator of the critically-acclaimed Sofrito! and Mytholojazz, which played to sold-out houses as the New Victory Theater. Gonzalez' Man of the House was commissioned and produced by the Kennedy Center in 2013.
