Bay Ridge Democrats Called to Join the Fight against Fracking

New Yorkers against Fracking
The program for tonight's meeting of the Bay Ridge Democrats -- the last before summer break -- included:
  • Presentations by invited speakers Jessica Roth of New Yorkers Against Fracking and David Doll of Food and Water Watch, issuing an impassioned call to action on the pressing issue of hydrofracking ("fracking") for natural gas, easily the state's biggest environmental and public health threat
  • A representative from the Domenic Recchia campaign, temporarily headquartered at the Stars and Stripes Club, at 7321 15th Avenue in Bensonhurst, who announced that the campaign will soon open a Brooklyn office in Dyker Heights;
  • Jonathan Viguers, Brooklyn Borough Director of the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit, with an invitation to club members to contact him on issues of concern both to Bay Ridge and Mayor deBlasio -- like safe streets; and
  • State Senate candidate James Kemmerer, endorsed by the club, with a reminder to members that, with petitioning season in full swing, they need to keep the pressure on -- and that volunteers are still welcome.
Joining the regular membership at tonight's meeting were several visiting members of the Bay Ridge High School Democrats, a young Democratic club organized by Bay Ridge high school students.
