Upcoming Rooftop Films in Brooklyn

We Are The Best
(Lukas Moodysson | 90 min.)

Two precocious young Swedes, Bobo and Klara, form a punk band--despite not owning any instruments or knowing how to play the simplest chords, and despite being told that punk is dead. Knowing nothing about music, they're forced to recruit fellow outcast Hedvig, a classically trained guitarist. The three outsiders, embracing the liberating, raucous sounds of ‘80s European punk, find solace from bullies, embarrassing parents and the ever-confusing presence of boys. The vibrant tale of pre-teen punks rambling around Stockholm in 1982 is based on a semi-autobiographical graphic novel by Coco, wife of Swedish auteur Lukas Moodysson. In a return to his earlier films (Show Me Love, Together), Moodysson embraces the experimentation, innovation and fun at the heart of punk. The result? A tribute to DIY culture and the power of "no".

All-girl teen rock band “PetalWar”, from NY’s Willie Mae Rock Camp For Girls, will perform a set pre-screening.
