Kings County American Legion Headquarters Band at New Utrecht Reformed Church

On Sunday, April 27 at 2:30 PM, the Friends of Historic New Utrecht invite you to the Parish House at New Utrecht Reformed Church, at 18th Avenue and 84th Street in Bensonhurst, for a free concert by the Kings County American Legion Headquarters Band, conducted by the 94-year-old dean of Brooklyn band musicians, Irwin Meyer.

Parking is available in the church lot at 18th Avenue and 84th Street.

The program is part of a series of free concerts and history-related events offered each year by the Friends of New Utrecht.

The widely-acclaimed band performed at New Utrecht under Meyer's direction last April.  Some members are professionals, but the musicians come from every walk of life. In its 80+ year history, the band has been home to alumni of the John Philip Sousa Band, the Goldman Band and other notable ensembles.

The Parish House, where the concert is set, and the nearby sanctuary are both historically significant. The 1828 sanctuary is currently under restoration. New Utrecht Reformed Church was founded in 1677 in the Town of New Utrecht and is a member of the Reformed Church in America (RCA).
