Everywhere I Go, I Find Irony

At midday, when the busy intersection at 86th Street and 4th Avenue was more congested than usual due to a broken-down city bus being towed away from the corner, I noticed this police van, tricked out with a rooftop array of loudspeakers, double-parked at the light, blasting an advertorial about the mayor's "Vision Zero" traffic safety plan -- in the usual languages.

The carefully-crafted message made sure to treat pedestrians and drivers as being equally responsible for obeying the rules.

Aside from the informational aspect, the police presence at that deadly intersection was apparently intended to make everyone behave -- at least until the marked vehicle pulled away.

Behavior-changer or clueless nuisance? You decide.
