The Healing Center will host its Third Annual Teen Dating Violence Awareness Walkathon, from Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall.
Registration for the event will begin at 9:00AM at Cadman Plaza Park in Brooklyn Heights, followed by a Rally in the Park at 10:00AM. The walk across Brooklyn Bridge begins at 11:15AM, followed by a News Conference on the steps of City Hall at 12:00 PM at which teen dating violence victims will tell their stories of trauma and recovery.
Bronx-born April Hernandez, nominated for a SAG Guild Award for her role in Freedom Writers and the TV series Dexter, will be one of the featured speakers. Hernandez, a former teen dating abuse victim, is a spokesperson for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Also invited are Antonia Clemente, Executive Director of The Healing Center, which sponsors the event; State Assembly Member Felix Ortiz; Council Member Mathieu Eugene; Council Members Vincent Gentile and Carlos Menchaca; and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.
Walkathon partners include Bethlehem Lutheran Church, The Brooklyn DA's Office, Caribbean Women's Health Association, Center for Anti-Violence Education, CONNECT, DJ JuiceE, Forest City Ratner, Girls for Gender Equality, Health First, The Brooklyn Nets, Assembly Members Felix Ortiz and Nicole Malliattakis, and the Brooklyn YWCA.
