Bay Ridge Sweeps 2014 Arts Council Awards

As reported by Victoria Hofmo of the Bay Ridge Arts and Cultural Alliance, Bay Ridge swept the annual Brooklyn Arts Council Awards Ceremony at 55 Washington Street in Brooklyn on March 20.

The Ceremony took place in the opulent Beaux-Art common room at BAC. The after-party featured the Catahoula Cajun Band and a food selection that included cake from Leske's Bakery.

In his welcome remarks, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams acknowledged Bay Ridge's contributions and emphasized the importance of the arts to Brooklyn's neighborhoods.

Bay Ridge individuals and organizations that received BAC grants included:
  • Nicole Macotsis -- Baby Tarab: Song and Dance bil 'Arabi; 
  • Nicole Macotsis and the Arab-American Family Support Center -- Arab Folk Art Series for Boys and Girls Clubs;
  • Barbara Cassidy/IS 187 Christa McAuliffe School -- play writing;
  • The Creators Collective/High School of Communications Arts and Technology -- "Not So Silent Films";
  • Bay Ridge SAW -- 5th Annual Bay Ridge Storefront Art Walk;
  • Scandinavian East Coast Museum -- Brooklyn/Norway Exhibit;
  • Bella Voce Singers (perform at the "Art on the Corner" series at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, among other venues);
  • Regina Opera - free performances at local Brooklyn Public Library branches.
Ethany Uttech, former BAC grant administrator and a supporter of the Bay Ridge Arts and Cultural Alliance, hosted a series of grant seminars in Bay Ridge credited with increasing the number of BAC awards in a year when applications for BAC funding have surged.
