Update: According to an email today, this distribution has been cancelled pending further notice due to a problem with the delivery.
The Bay Ridge Food Co-op Buying Club food distribution at Union Church, 7915 Ridge Blvd (at 80th Street) in Bay Ridge, is scheduled for Friday, 12/20 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM and Saturday, 12/21, from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM.
It's root vegetable season: carrots, rutabaga, winter squash, sweet potatoes, which can all be diced and roasted in batches, then gathered up with sautéed onions. Or you could try celeriac: the hideous, under-appreciated root can be simply boiled with potatoes and an apple, pureed and served as a light, creamy, spicy alternative to mashed potatoes.
In addition to root vegetables, the Buying Club now carries Giving-for-Living (GFL) coffee direct from the Dominican Republic. Every dollar generated from the sale of GFL coffee goes to fund a Bay Ridge non-profit that aids women and children in Central America. Learn more about GFL coffee at the distribution.
Also on the inventory list: organic soap bars, Carr's crackers, organic extra virgin olive oil, and much more.
