Environmental Advocates of New York, State Senate Majority Coalition Leader Dean Skelos is blocking a vote on S-4046, a bill introduced by Senator Carlucci that would establish a two-year moratorium on hydrofracking to allow the state time to study the public health impacts of the high-risk gas drilling process.
As the fracking juggernaut rolls on, a wealth of important information is emerging on its public health impacts -- information critical to the state's decision whether to permit the practice here.
It will take 32 votes to pass the Carlucci bill. Not surprisingly, our State Senator, Marty Golden, a Skelos captain, has failed to support the bill.
And Gov. Andrew Cuomo has failed to make good on his promise that the state's fracking regulatory process would be driven by science, not drilling lobby cash.
So it's up to us. EANY is asking for our help in pushing back against Skelos. Please call on Golden, as our state senator, to co-sponsor and vote for the Carlucci bill.
