Coalition for Carroll Gardens Seeks Zoning Expert, Volunteers, Donations

The Coalition for Carroll Gardens, which opposes a plan by Housing Solutions USA/Aguila Inc., a city contractor, to open a homeless shelter at 165 West 9th Street, is raising funds to pay its legal expenses (it has filed a lawsuit and gotten a restraining order);  an expert zoning consultant to act as a witness in the case; and volunteers to hand out informational flyers in the neighborhood.

Robert Hess, the city's former Commissioner of Homeless Services, is chair and CEO of Housing Solutions.

The next court hearing is scheduled for January 25.

The city has filed a motion to dismiss the case.
