An extension of the ER at the highly-regarded SUNY Downstate Medical Center, the Bay Ridge facility isn't your usual "doc in a box" walk-in clinic.
Open from 10 AM to 9 PM 7 days a week, without appointment, the center offers patients with urgent, but not immediately life-threatening, medical issues, like the flu or a job-related injury, a shorter wait than a hospital emergency room.
The center's doctors are not only board-certified in emergency medicine, but can also treat the kinds of medical problems a family practitioner or specialist might see. Sophisticated onsite medical diagnostics, including CAT scan, x-ray and lab services, can speed diagnosis and treatment for urgent care patients.
Emergencies -- like a heart attack or stroke -- can be stabilized at the center and transported to the hospital, either to SUNY Downstate at Long Island College Hospital or the SUNY flagship in East Flatbush.
The center offers the following free diagnostics:
- Breast exams, mammograms, colon cancer screening for uninsured men and women ages 50-64; and free cancer services for uninsured Brooklyn residents: 718-567-1384.
- Prostate screening; adult hearing testing; flu vaccines: 718-567-1400.
