Hurricane Sandy Art Relief Caravan in Far Rockaway

The Hurricane Sandy Art Relief Caravan, a joint project of the Children's Movement for Creative Education and Word Above the Street, will be at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 348 Beach 71st Street in Far Rockaway (MAP IT), this Saturday, November 17 from 12 Noon to 3:00 PM.

Children from 6 to teens are welcome.

The Art Relief Caravan, at the Gravesend Houses in Coney Island last Saturday, is designed to help children cope with the aftermath of traumatic events. Working with a team of artists, children living in those areas of the city hardest-hit by the storm will create art healing projects.

The Children's Movement has run successful creative trauma relief programs for children and youth in New York City after 9/11, and in post-war Bosnia.

Children's art projects will focus on the theme of resiliency, with the goal of supporting their hopefulness and emotional well-being.
