Montclair Township, in Essex County, New Jersey has officially declared September 11 a National Day of Service (a/k/a "Be Kind When Nobody's Looking").
The idea came from Michael Benfante, a passionate 9/11 survivor, former Montclair resident, and author of a 9/11 memoir, The Reluctant Hero, (Skyhorse Publishing, 2012).
Benfante hopes to see his idea go viral, with 9/11 National Days of Service bring created in towns and cities across the US.
