The New York eHealth Collaborative, the Partnership for New York City Fund and the state Department of Health have announced the $4.2 million first phase of the New York Digital Health Accelerator Program, designed to spur IT innovation and create jobs in the healthcare industry.

All companies will be awarded up to $300,000 and be mentored for 9 months by senior-level executives at leading hospitals and health care providers in New York State.

NYDHA's $4.2 million first-phase investment is expected to create approximately 1,500 healthcare-related jobs over the next 5 years and attract as much as $200 million in venture capital investment, making New York a hub for the emerging digital health technology industry.

The partnership is the biggest health IT accelerator program in the United States, and the first to put young companies together with senior-level healthcare providers.

The Accelerator is expected to support providers in the state's Medicaid Redesign initiative, shifting New York from a fee-for-service to a managed care model.

A new website at www.digitalhealthaccelerator.com provides updates on the program.
