New Brooklyn Theater Campaign Builds Momentum

New Brooklyn Theater Executive Producer Sarah Wolfe, in an email blast to Kickstarter supporters, reports that the theater's quest to buy Bedford Stuyvesant's historic Slave Theater has drawn support from rapper Talib Kweli, Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley, Def Poetry Jam's Danny Simmons, the New York City Council, and the Municipal Art Society.

The theater will be featured on ABC news at 6 AM and at 4 PM tomorrow, Monday September 10. Because the broadcast includes the total amount raised and the number of backers, the group is pushing for 300 backers and $25,000 by midnight tonight.

The group has seen an outpouring of support from individuals and companies that want to partner in the project. Meetings are being scheduled with politicians, community leaders and real estate interests that want to help preserve the building and insure that it stays a working theater.
