2012 Scandinavian East Coast Museum Essay Contest "Honoring Norwegian Women"

Every year in October, the Scandinavian East Coast Museum hosts its Annual Essay Contest in honor of Leif Eriksson Day.

The theme of year’s contest is “Honoring Norwegian Women,” to coordinate with the Norwegian Day Parade Committee’s 2012 parade theme.

The contest is open to children in 4th - 6th grades who live in the tri-state area.

Writers are asked to use their imagination. They can choose a real or an imaginary Norwegian woman: a Norse goddess, a Viking woman or girl, or a contemporary Norwegian woman.

Essays can be up to two typed pages long and must be either typed or neatly hand-written. Two winners will be chosen.

Prizes include a gift certificate from local import shop Nordic Delicacies, Viking memorabilia, and the chance to ride in the Viking ship in the 2013 Norwegian Day Parade.

Essays must be received by November 15. Address your entry to SECM, 440 Ovington Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11209.

For additional information, call Victoria Hofmo at 718-748-5950.
