Maya Beiser's "Elsewhere" at BAM Next Wave

Cellist Maya Beiser, who the Boston Globe describes as having “virtuoso chops, rock-star charisma, and an appetite for pushing her instrument to the edge of avant-garde adventurousness,” will premiere ELSEWHERE, her new production, from October 17 through 20 at the 2012 BAM Next Wave Festival.

Her "CelloOpera", produced by Beth Morrison Projects, will be performed at the Fishman Space at BAM’s new Richard B. Fischer Building, opening in September at 321 Ashland Place in Brooklyn.

ELSEWHERE, which re-imagines the biblical story of Lot’s wife, features performances by Maya Beiser and vocalist Helga Davis.

Robert Woodruff directs.

Raised on a kibbutz in Israel by her French mother and Argentine father, Maya Beiser is a graduate of Yale University. Her major teachers were Aldo Parisot, Uzi Weizel, Alexander Schneider, and Isaac Stern. Maya was the founding cellist of new music ensemble Bang on a Can All-Stars. She can be found on Twitter, tweeting as @cellogoddess.
