32BJ SEIU Endorses Gounardes

The 70,000-member 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the state's biggest private-sector union, has endorsed Democrat Andrew Gounardes For State Senate in the 22nd District.

The 22nd includes Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach, Gravesend, Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach, and Midwood.

Announcing the endorsement, 32BJ Secretary-Treasurer Hector Figueroa called out Senate Republicans for ignoring working families:  refusing to raise the minimum wage or to expand the prevailing wage, and blocking campaign finance reform.

With working people in New York struggling just to get by, Figeuroa said, unions are turning to Democratic challengers like Gounardes who are willing to fight for working families and the middle class.

Accepting the endorsement, Gounardes called it a good fit, saying working families, job creation, fair wages, education, and mass transit are his top priorities.
