Chuck Otey Does His Homework

At a press conference at The BookMark Shoppe, 8415 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge, at Noon this Friday, February 3, 2012, the Third Avenue Merchants Association, joined by local elected officials, will announce their proposal for "Summer Stroll on Third", as part of the City's 2012 Summer Streets initiative.

"Summer Stroll on Third" would open a section of Bay Ridge's Third Avenue, one of the neighborhood's two major commercial streets, as a pedestrian plaza, creating an outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment destination during designated weekends this summer.

Details of the Third Avenue Merchants Association's proposal will be announced at the press conference. The media is welcome.

Postscript:

The Brooklyn Spectator reported that the application filed with the Mayor's Street Activity Permit Office sets the event from 6 - 10:30 PM on four Friday evenings, July 20 and 27 and August 10 and 17.  "Summer Stroll" might be just a series of car-free blocks with cars driving by at either end -- or not, I guess, depending on how you interpret the term "side streets".

CB 10's Traffic and Transportation Committee has calendared "Summer Stroll" for its next public meeting, at 7 PM on February 7 at the Community Room at Shore Hill, 9000 Shore Road in Bay Ridge.

Here's what happened at that meeting, from Bay Ridge Odyssey.

The event, with some modifications, won Community Board approval. [Brooklyn Daily.]
