Hundreds Show Up for Safe Slope March

According to Gothamist, a bigger-than-expected crowd of more than 300 people came to the Safe Slope march and rally in Park Slope this week to protest a sexual assault spree in South Brooklyn that has terrorized women in Park Slope, Sunset Park, and Bay Ridge.

Some local residents blame the NYPD for not taking the sexual assaults, which began in March, seriously enough soon enough.  There have been more than six attempted sexual assaults in South Brooklyn since then, and a rape in Sunset park.

Police believe there may be more than one perpetrator -- maybe as many as three. A recently-released sketch shows a suspect described as 5'4", with dark hair.

Safe Slope is launching a Safe Walk program in South Slope/Greenwood Heights/Windsor Terrace Thursday through Sunday nights between 8:00pm and 3:00am. Volunteers will meet women at local establishments and subway stops and walk with them to any destination between 9th and 30th Streets and between 2nd and 8th Avenues in Brooklyn.

If you are interested in volunteering, email safeslope@gmail.com.
